(Television) Ranting which leads into talking about Family Guy

I have not watched much TV (at the time shows are actually airing) for a few years now. A lot of that is due to the reception situation in the Pittsburgh area. We get three stations, not all of them in a watchable state. The local PBS comes in so-so, and Fox is the strongest signal. NBC almost comes in. Not very conducive to my watching anything.

Digital cable is a complete ripoff. So much for that cable-ready TV you have! And they are always slandering satellite TV, despite the far superior features and end user usability of satellite. Screw them. Cable companies really need to offer "a la carte" service. This would be where you say, "Okay, I want Sci-fi, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and the local stations, and that's it," and they charge you $10 or something. Hey cable companies! NO ONE NEEDS YOUR #!%!#^!#*^&(%$@ 500 MILLION STATIONS!

So needless to say, this is why I do not watch much live TV.

I had caught little bits and pieces of Family Guy at Fred and Jameel's place here and there, but I had never really sat down and watched a full episode. When I heard it was coming out on DVD I didn't really care. Fred was kind enough to indoctrinate me into this amazing experience, via DVD. Family Guy has to be the most provocative show from mainstream television that I've ever seen. That, plus I think it's made me laugh louder than I ever have laughed regularly at any other show, including some of the comedy greats. Sure, HBO shows can get away with whatever they want -- because they're on HBO -- but Family Guy pushed the envelope, and I am shocked they got away with half of what they did. But, well, yeah, they're on Fox.

I can't imagine my mother enjoying this show (no offense Mom!) but I enjoy the crap out of it.
